Talk to Cycling ahead of this year’s Giro, director Mauro Vegni said there were plans for overseas starts in the years to come.
“There were planned overseas starts and still are, but they are pending,” Vegni said. “For next year, we’ll see what happens by October and if the vaccine is having an effect. Let’s hope so.”
The 2020 edition of the race was due to start in Budapest, Hungary, before the coronavirus pandemic forced an edition of the race only in Italy.
Slovakia is linked to hosting the start of the next Giro, which last started on foreign territory in Israel in 2018.
The 2022 Tour de France and the Vuelta a España will also start abroad in 2022, starting from Copenhagen and Utrecht respectively.
