Cycling news – RSC Sport confirms its departure abroad for the Giro d’Italia 2022 as the big three prepare to make their debut abroad

RSC has announced that the 2022 edition of the Giro d’Italia will start on foreign soil for the first time since 2018.

The exact location of the Grande Partenza has not yet been confirmed, but the race is scheduled to start on May 6, allowing for an additional day of rest before the race is transferred to Italy.

“The Corsa Rosa 2022 will start on Friday May 6 and will observe an additional day of rest, for a total of 3 in the race, taking into account the Grande Partenza of the 105th edition from abroad,” said RCS Sport.

Milan-San Remo will now also move in March and will take place between Tirreno-Adriatico and Milan-San Remo.

Talk to Cycling ahead of this year’s Giro, director Mauro Vegni said there were plans for overseas starts in the years to come.

“There were planned overseas starts and still are, but they are pending,” Vegni said. “For next year, we’ll see what happens by October and if the vaccine is having an effect. Let’s hope so.”

The 2020 edition of the race was due to start in Budapest, Hungary, before the coronavirus pandemic forced an edition of the race only in Italy.

Slovakia is linked to hosting the start of the next Giro, which last started on foreign territory in Israel in 2018.

The 2022 Tour de France and the Vuelta a España will also start abroad in 2022, starting from Copenhagen and Utrecht respectively.
