Golf leads Wildcat Spring Invitational after day one
VILLANOVA, Pennsylvania – The Marquette University men’s golf team takes first place after a round at the Wildcat Spring Invitational at Radnor Valley Country Club.
The Golden Eagles shot a combined 1-of-281 in Monday’s first round and are four shots ahead of conference foe BIG EAST St. John’s in second place at 5-over. Graduate student Eichhorn Hunter led MU with a 2-under 68 and is tied for second with Delaware’s Sahasawat Ariyachatvakin.
Eichhorn posted a bogey on the par-3 second hole and was clean the rest of his round, posting three birdies in a five-hole stretch from numbers 5-11.
Junior red shirt Tyler Leach clinched a 1-under 69 with three birdies offsetting a pair of bogeys. It is tied for fourth, while freshman Max Lyons is also in the top 10 with a 1 in 71.
Lehigh’s David Hurly posted a 3-under 67 on Monday to lead all players and is one stroke ahead of Eichhorn heading into Tuesday’s final round. Eichhorn is the only individual to compete at Radnor Valley in the Golfstat top 100.
Tuesday’s second round is scheduled to begin April 18 at 7 a.m. central time. The Golden Eagles are paired with St. John’s, Bucknell and Long Island University.
