Novant Health extends paid leave to full-time and part-time workers

Novant Health, one of the largest health care systems in the Carolinas, is compensating full-time and part-time workers with an additional 24 hours of paid time off equivalent to a cash reward.

Novant Health workers will receive paid time off for their work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Full-time workers will receive an additional week of paid leave or an equivalent cash award. All employees at the assistant manager level and below, and part-time workers are eligible to receive an additional 24 hours of PTO or cash equivalent.

“The pandemic has underscored our commitment to our people credo, which states that our business is the care of everyone, starting with our team members,” the president and chief executive said last month. of Novant Health, Carl Armato, at a town hall meeting. “We recognize that we need to take care of our team members first so they can take care of others, and I’m proud that we can give them this surprise award.”

The $40 million investment is one of many new incentives the health system has planned this year to support frontline workers and employees during the pandemic. Since March 2020, Armato and the management team have held more than 75 town hall meetings on Zoom to directly answer questions from team members.

“These town halls were designed to be a two-way conversation. I hope today’s surprise announcement demonstrates to everyone on the team that “we hear you; we appreciate you and we are here to support you,” Armato said. “From the team member who had to take an unexpected week off to homeschool their child, to the team member who took a week off to recover from an illness but was unable to see the family he wanted – everyone on the team should have needed the time to prioritize their well-being and focus on self-care.

As of early 2021, the company has invested over $300 million in its employees for pay raises, benefits, bonuses and incentives. In 2020, Novant Health launched the Thriving Together initiative which provides workers with “collective and holistic well-being to help them thrive in the face of challenges and in times of crisis”.

In addition to other support programs offered to employees, the health system has developed and contributed more than $13 million to a disaster relief fund called the Hope for Remarkable Team Aubergine Fund created to help workers who have had struggling to make ends meet during the pandemic.

Novant Health’s network consists of more than 1,800 physicians and 35,000 workers who provide hands-on health services to communities in the Carolinas and Georgia.
