Official supporters club reflects on cathartic win for Swindon Town fans
SWINDON Town Official Supporters Club Treasurer Tim Keen looks back on a victory that will be remembered for a long time and highlights the group’s involvement in a few good causes.
Cathartic. That’s the only word I can use to describe how I felt when Dion Conroy scored that last-minute winner against Oldham last Saturday.
All those months spent watching Swindon on iFollow, powerless to voice our displeasure with the way John Sheridan was managing and ultimately relegating the team we had supported for so many years.
Looking at Dion’s reactions and emotions, one can only imagine that it was pretty similar for him too!
And then we continue with a brilliant hard-fought battle of victory against a brutally physical Sutton United side – with a referee who has taken the diabolical level of refereeing in this division to another level! But these three points could be so crucial by May.
Off the pitch, the Official Supporters Club were busy working with the Free Kicks Foundation ahead of what was to be our next home game against Forest Green Rovers.
The Free Kicks Foundation is a national charity whose aim is to provide football-related activities for sick, bereaved and disadvantaged children, providing them with an unforgettable day with their favorite football club.
We were going to sponsor the game and pay for three young children to be the mascots for the day – nominated by the STFC Community Foundation.
However, with the international call-up, the match was rescheduled. We hope to try to organize the event for the rescheduled match – watch this space.
The OSC is also involved in the recent Her Game Too initiative, Chris and Hannah of the OSC proudly wearing their Swindon Town shirts while promoting this initiative recently.
Anyway, onto Crawley now and hopefully three more points before the extended break. Travel safe for all who go – and be sure to bring the noise!
Go Red !
