Jujutsu Kaisen Manga will go on hiatus due to author’s poor health

Yesterday, the official Jujutsu Kaisen manga Twitter account announced a week-long sabbatical due to creator Gege Akutami’s poor health. According to reports, Akutami is on the mend.

The break came in the middle of a highly anticipated chapter following the previous issue in the series. This, as well as the current state of the series and the direction it seems to be heading, will be explored in greater depth later.

Jujutsu Kaisen Comic Enters One Week Break, Mangaka Gege Akutami Recovers From Ill Health

Prior to the 178th issue of Jujutsu Kaisen, the manga will take a one-week hiatus. The chapter was scheduled to premiere next Sunday in Weekly Shonen Jump’s 15th 2020 issue, but will now be released the following Friday in the 16th issue.

As reported by the manga’s official Twitter account, the first and original Japanese tweet was used by the series’ PR account. Both tweets point out that the hiatus is due to Akutami’s poor physical health, with the latter tweet pointing out that they have already begun rehabilitation measures.

Akutami recently took a sabbatical, prior to the present case, in July 2021. The duration of the sabbatical was approximately one month, with Akutami also citing their poor physical health as the cause for the hiatus at the time.

The previous break also pointed out that Akutami was in good mental health and not a serious illness. This is certainly the case here too because the presence of such factors has not been mentioned.
