Win a Five Star Break on Loch Lomond at Cameron House | Travel
A friend and I are standing on a roadway near a rare, aging production facility. It’s a windy day, with blue skies, and as the sun glistens on the windswept creek below, we agree there are worse places to endure the daily grind. This may be one of the reasons why people have been working on this site for over 900 years.
A slice of toast in the on-site cafe is a must. But we don’t linger. Today we leave for a visit to a nearby town. We cross a bridge to the east-northeast, then turn southeast past an area dominated by well-trafficked boxes. Our first stop is a stretch of 14th century walls that were brought about by the arrival of visitors from France.
Then, we visit the memorials of two famous departures. The first, commemorated by a tall, slender monument 3½ miles east-southeast of the production plant, was – in the long run – a spectacular success; the second, marked by a plaque 600 meters further on, was not.
Still, Friend is inspired. He wants an adventure too, and he’s sure we can find it on a river that meanders through the city, far to the south. Sailing in a dinghy, kayaking, rowing – it doesn’t matter to him.
“What, in this weather? I shout as we are raked by another gust.
“Oh come on, this will sort the wheat from the chaff,” he told me. “Besides, it will be more sheltered up there.”
“Near, far, wherever you think, I’m not coming,” I tell him.
“We will have life jackets!” A friend stutters. What could go wrong?”
“On a birthday like this, a lot,” I grumble.
The winner and their guest will enjoy an unrivaled two-night adventure package at Cameron House, the five-star resort at the southern end of Loch Lomond. During their stay, the winner and his/her guest will be served breakfast and dinner (excluding drinks) at the Cameron Grill, one of the hotel’s six restaurants.
