Women’s tennis hosts Eastern Michigan, travels to Southern Indiana ahead of Spring Break

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine women’s tennis will face two familiar opponents this weekend.

Friday at 6:00 p.m., the Knights host Eastern Michigan, which hosted BU at EMU’s hidden duels in September — Bellarmine’s first competition of the 2021-22 season.

On Saturday, the Knights travel to Southern Indiana for a 4:30 p.m. game. Bellarmine last faced USI in March 2019, when both teams were GLVC opponents. Since then, BU has moved to Division I and the ASUN Conference, while the Screaming Eagles will soon move to Division I and the Ohio Valley Conference next season.

Eastern Michigan is 6-5 this season, including a five-game winning streak. Most recently, the Eagles lost to Michigan State 6-1. Common opponents between Bellarmine and EMU are Marshall and Murray State. Eastern lost to Murray State 4-3 (Bellarmine lost 7-0) and fell to Marshall 6-1 (BU lost 6-1).

Southern Indiana is the first non-DI opponent on Bellarmine’s schedule this year. USI are off to a 2-1 start this season with back-to-back 7-0 wins over Brescia and Georgetown respectively. The last time the program met in Evansville, BU handled Southern Indiana 6-1 in March 2019.

The Knights are coming off a tough weekend against Louisville and no. 20 Tennessee as they seek their first win of the season.
